Energy Efficient Lights

Energy Efficient Lights

LED lighting that uses less power and still looks warm

LED lighting uses a fraction of the power of the incandescent and halogen fixtures it replaces and lasts years longer. The reason people dislike it is almost always color temperature and dimming, not the technology.

We specify warm color temperatures, high color rendering and dimmers actually matched to the driver — so the light looks like light, and doesn't flicker or buzz at low levels.

Typical timeline

A room or two of recessed lighting is typically a one to two day job. Whole-house lighting plans run alongside the rest of a remodel schedule.

What's included

The scope, in plain terms

Recessed lighting

New LED recessed fixtures laid out for the room rather than spaced evenly and hoped for, including retrofits into existing housings.

Under-cabinet and task lighting

Continuous LED strip or puck lighting at kitchen counters, desks and vanities, with drivers and switching concealed.

Fixtures and decorative lighting

Pendants, chandeliers, sconces and ceiling fans installed on properly rated boxes and supports.

Dimming and controls

LED-compatible dimmers, smart switches, occupancy sensors and scene control that behaves the way you expect.

Exterior and landscape

Entry, soffit, path and accent lighting on photocells or timers, in fixtures rated for outdoor exposure.

Circuits and panel work

New circuits where lighting loads require them, and panel work when the existing service is at its limit.

Questions

What homeowners ask about energy efficient lights

Which color temperature should I choose?+

Most homes read best around 2700K to 3000K — warm and close to the light people are used to. Cooler light suits garages and workshops but makes living rooms feel clinical.

Why do my LEDs flicker?+

Nearly always a dimmer that was designed for incandescent loads. Matching the dimmer to the fixture driver fixes it.

Can you add recessed lights without tearing up the ceiling?+

In most single-story homes with attic access, yes — remodel housings go in through small cut openings, which we patch and texture.

We work in Woodland Hills, Calabasas, Tarzana, Encino, Sherman Oaks, Studio City and the surrounding communities. See the full service area.
