Energy Efficient Roofing

Energy Efficient Roofing

Roofing that keeps water out and heat off your ceiling

In the Valley a roof does two jobs: it keeps the winter rain out and it takes the full weight of a hundred-degree summer. Most of the roofs we're called to look at are failing at the details — flashing, valleys and penetrations — long before the field of the roof gives up.

We strip to the deck when the deck needs to be seen, replace what's rotted, and install the underlayment, flashing and ventilation as a system. Cool-rated shingle and tile products reflect more solar heat than the dark roofs they replace, which makes the attic below easier to cool.

Typical timeline

A typical single-family re-roof takes two to five days on site once materials are delivered; tile and multi-layer tear-offs take longer. Permits and inspections are handled as part of the job.

What's included

The scope, in plain terms

Tear-off and deck repair

Removing the existing roof, inspecting the sheathing and rafters, and replacing any wood that has softened around leaks and valleys.

Underlayment and flashing

Synthetic or modified underlayment, new valley metal, step and counter flashing at walls and chimneys, and proper boots at every pipe penetration.

Shingle, tile and flat systems

Architectural composition shingles, concrete and clay tile re-roofs and re-lays, and torch-down or single-ply membranes for low-slope sections.

Cool roof products

Reflective, cool-rated roofing materials where the design allows, so less solar heat is transferred into the attic space.

Ventilation

Balanced intake and exhaust — eave vents, ridge or static vents, and attic fans where the layout calls for one.

Gutters and edge metal

Drip edge, fascia repair and coordination with new or existing gutters so water leaves the roof where it should.

Questions

What homeowners ask about energy efficient roofing

Repair or replace?+

If the leak is at one flashing detail and the field of the roof still has life, repair it. If the shingles are curling, the granules are in the gutters, or you've patched the same area twice, you're paying twice for a replacement you'll do anyway.

Do roofing jobs need a permit?+

Re-roofing generally requires a permit in Los Angeles County jurisdictions. We pull it and schedule the inspection.

Will a cool roof lower my cooling bills?+

A reflective roof reduces the heat entering the attic, which helps — but attic insulation and ventilation matter just as much. We'll tell you where the biggest gap actually is instead of selling you the roof alone.

We work in Woodland Hills, Calabasas, Tarzana, Encino, Sherman Oaks, Studio City and the surrounding communities. See the full service area.
